For survivors, families, journalists and policymakers: immediate support, the right words, and the documents MyOwn has published.
Find support
If it is happening to you right now, you are not alone and you are not to blame.
The services below are independent organizations with trained staff. MyOwn lists them as a starting point; this page is general information, not legal advice.
Image-based abuse help
Removal, reporting and legal help.
Tools and helplines built specifically for nonconsensual intimate imagery, for adults and for anyone under 18.
First steps
What to do first.
A short checklist drawn from the people who handle these cases every day.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
Do not engage with the person distributing the images. Save everything instead.
Document: screenshots with URLs and dates, usernames, messages and any payment demands.
Report the content to each platform using its nonconsensual intimate imagery process, and keep the case numbers.
Consider filing a police report. Bring your documentation and the applicable state law.
Talk to a lawyer who handles image-based abuse. Many offer free initial consultations.
For journalists
Cover it accurately.
The IBSA survivor media guide is a 23-page resource on language, framing and sourcing when reporting on image-based sexual abuse.
It covers why “revenge porn” is the wrong term, how to interview survivors without re-traumatizing them, and what to do with leaked material. Press requests go to media@myownimage.org.
